Reem and Ahmad and their three kids, Jude, Kaess and Rodney recently moved to Boston. They are originally from Aleppo, Syria and came to the US as refugees two years ago now. Originally, they were assigned by the State Dept to Arizona, but Jude has Muscular Dystrophy, so they family needed to bring her to Children’s Hospital for ongoing treatment as the hospitals in Arizona could not help her. Jude is 9 years old and has been in a wheel chair unable to walk her whole life. Normally, by this age, a child with her condition would have had many surgeries, but the war in Syria disrupted this possibility. It is expensive to live in the Boston area, so we are raising funds to help the family pay rent on an apt for the first year, while they apply and get on waiting list for a disabled apartment. If you’d like to donate to help them with rent or expenses, please go to the donate page and write for Reem’s family in the notes. If you want funds to go to housing you can stipulate or just say general. Even if they weren’t refugees, without a home or job (yet), having a child with Muscular Dystrophy with no family or community support would be hard, if not impossible. Add to this, that they as a family have a lot of cultural and language adjustments to make: Dad needs to learn English better, in addition to taking care of Jude and the other children. Please help if you can.
