Basma and her husband and four young children fled war conditions in Syria and found refuge in Jordan. Soon after their arrival, the father left the family, fled to Turkey and was not heard of or from, again. Without her husband, Basma could not make payments for one room or buy necessary items for her family. She is now receiving assistance from ARC in the amount of 200USD/month toward housing and basic needs. ARC has also recently funded the purchase of a sewing machine, a refrigerator, oven and food canning equipment to Basma. This support was in response to her idea to sew clothing and make canned foods to sell. Recently, she has been doing some cooking for other families nearby. She loves this work, and her hope is to sell her food through her neighbor Mohammad, another refugee we support, who wants to start a small shop. Additional needs for the family include money to pay for transportation to the children’s school (although the school itself is free) and funding for four-year-old Hamza, who is autistic, to continue going to a specialized school, which so far has been very effective for him.
