Early one morning in July 2012, Amina’s husband left for work as a driver and never returned. Soon after this, Syrian regime forces attacked her village, tortured the men and killed her neighbors. Amina and her children fled to the neighboring village, staying briefly with relatives before making a two-kilometer walk into the night to safety in a refugee camp. They are now living with three other families in a house in Reyhanli, Turkey, but are in need of an apartment of their own. All of the children over the age of six attend school. Amina, who has dressmaking and farming experience, would like to sew and/or cook to earn a living and provide for her young family.

Concerns and needs :
Amina recently suffered a heart attack. ARC volunteers do not currently know the extent of her medical concerns, but with seven children to provide for, we are hoping to foster the improved health of this mother, so she can work towards her goal of supporting her family in all ways, including financially.
The family is not UNHCR registered. They receive some food and supplies from other refugees, but not in ample or consistent amounts. Amina does not want to be resettled. She would like to make a life in Turkey or return home to Syria, if possible, someday.
ARC is working in cooperation with volunteer Stefanie Sziervogl, who is in turn in contact with other volunteers, one of whom has found a 3-room apartment for the family. The rent is 640 TL/month (180 USD). There is a standard payment of three months’ rent in advance. The family will have additional needs, such as financial support to purchase a washing machine and other needed domestic items.
ARC support for which donations are currently needed –
Commitment to pay for housing for 1 year – 2160 USD
Commitment to raise funds for micro-business –
Household expenses- washing machine
